The Beach Restoration Project is done at last!

These pictures, taken on November 18, 2003 (the first day of the work),
illustrate how it was done.

Dredged sand mixed with water
is pumped by this barge
through a pipe onto the beach.

This is the pipe.
The offshore dredge is on the horizon.

The mixture of water and sand gushes onto the beach
where the water drains out
and a bulldozer pushes the sand out of the surf ...

and into place on the new beach.

The work is supervised by an engineer
on a remarkable mobile amphibious tripod
that goes from the beach ....

into very deep water (and back) under its own power!
